Eric Cousineau
Eric Cousineau works on robotics software and robot learning. He earned a Texas A&M mechanical-engineering master’s degree in December 2014 and worked as a robotics research engineer at Toyota Research Institute. He contributed to Drake under Russ Tedrake’s direction. He coauthored a 2022 iterative residual-policy method for dynamic manipulation of deformable objects. He also coauthored Diffusion Policy, first submitted in March 2023, which represents robot behavior through a conditional diffusion process.

Mechanical-engineering training
Cousineau earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering at Texas A&M in December 2014. It names Aaron Ames and the AMBER Lab as his research setting.

As of July 2022
Robotics engineering and Drake
He held a robotics research-engineer role at Toyota Research Institute under Russ Tedrake and responsibility for helping develop Drake.

Iterative residual policies
Cousineau coauthored the RSS paper with Cheng Chi, Benjamin Burchfiel, Siyuan Feng and Shuran Song. The framework learns how changes in actions affect a previously observed trajectory and is tested on rope and cloth manipulation.

March 2023
Diffusion Policy
Cousineau coauthored Diffusion Policy with a wider research group. The paper models robot visuomotor behavior as a conditional denoising diffusion process.
