Eneko Agirre
Eneko Agirre researches multilingual word meaning and language technology. His shared 1996 paper with German Rigau uses conceptual density and WordNet to disambiguate nouns. In 2016, he worked with collaborators on interlingual representations in Spanish, Basque and English. ACL elected him a Fellow in 2021 for contributions that include semantic similarity, translation and Basque resources. In January 2022, he directed HiTZ and belonged to Ixa.

Meanings across languages
Agirre worked with Aitor Soroa, Oier López de la Calle and Josu Goikoetxea on a shared project. The project learns interlingual representations of words and concepts from documents, with research focused on Spanish, Basque and English. It aims to connect meanings across languages and improve meaning-aware retrieval.
