Dragan Gašević

Also known as Dragan Gasevic

Dragan Gašević is a learning analytics researcher whose work uses data analytics and AI to advance understanding of self-regulated and collaborative learning. As of October 2026, he is Chair Professor at the University of Hong Kong. Earlier he held a Canada Research Chair at Athabasca University and the Sir Tim O'Shea Chair at the University of Edinburgh before he joined Monash University in February 2018. He helped found the Society for Learning Analytics Research and served as its president from 2015 to 2017, and he was a founding editor of the Journal of Learning Analytics. In 2022 he received the SoLAR Lifetime Member Award and was named an ACM Distinguished Member.

    A Canada Research Chair

    At Athabasca University, he holds the Canada Research Chair in Semantic and Learning Technologies from 2009 to 2014.

  2. 2012–2017

    The Journal of Learning Analytics

    He serves as a founding editor of the Journal of Learning Analytics from 2012 to 2017.

  3. 2015–2017

    Presiding over the learning analytics society

    He helps found the Society for Learning Analytics Research and serves as its president from 2015 to 2017.

  4. 2015–2018

    The Sir Tim O'Shea Chair

    Between 2015 and 2018, he holds the Sir Tim O'Shea Chair in Learning Analytics and Informatics at the University of Edinburgh.

    Professor at Monash

    In February 2018, he joins Monash University as professor of learning analytics.

  6. 2022

    SoLAR Lifetime Member Award

    In 2022, he receives the SoLAR Lifetime Member Award, the highest distinction of the Society for Learning Analytics Research. ACM's 2022 list of Distinguished Members includes him.

    Chair professor in Hong Kong

    He is Chair Professor in the Faculty of Education and the School of Computing and Data Science at the University of Hong Kong. His research interests center on data analytics, AI, and design methods that advance understanding of self-regulated and collaborative learning.
