Donald Knuth

Also known as Donald E. Knuth, Donald Ervin Knuth, 高德纳

Donald Knuth is the author of The Art of Computer Programming, and by March 2026 the AI model Claude Opus 4.6 had solved a graph theory problem that he had worked on unsuccessfully for weeks. In 2025 he published a fascicle on constraint satisfaction, a framework tied to computer vision. He created the TeX typesetting system and published its program as a book in 1986. He received the ACM Turing Award in 1974, the National Medal of Science in 1979, and the Kyoto Prize in 1996. As of October 2026, he is Professor Emeritus of The Art of Computer Programming at Stanford University.
