Jeff Dean
Jeff Dean is a systems and AI researcher. Google has announced that he and Sanjay Ghemawat are launching an independent public benefit corporation. He joined Google in 1999 after systems work at Digital. With Ghemawat, he published MapReduce, which lets programmers process large datasets across machines while the system handles distribution and failures. He also coauthored Bigtable for structured data storage. His later work connected computing infrastructure with machine learning through DistBelief and TensorFlow, both developed by teams. In 2017, he described Google Brain's combination of fundamental research and product work. His career shows how shared computing systems can support larger experiments.
