Christian Igel
Igel earned a Bielefeld doctorate in 2002 and a Bochum habilitation in 2010. He held a junior professorship in optimization of adaptive systems from 2003 to 2010. Igel took a machine-learning appointment at Copenhagen in October 2010 and became a full professor in December 2014. His research includes neural networks, reinforcement learning, kernels and uncertainty estimates. Igel coauthored a 2025 review on high-resolution sensors and deep learning for monitoring tree resources. His work also addresses the environmental sustainability of AI.
