Also known as Bruce Croft
Bruce Croft is a computer scientist at the University of Massachusetts Amherst whose research includes the language modeling approach to search. After degrees from Monash University, he completed a Cambridge PhD in 1979, and in 1992 he founded the Center for Intelligent Information Retrieval, which combines basic research with technology transfer. He chaired the computer science department from 2001 to 2007, and in 2003 he received the Gerard Salton Award from ACM SIGIR. In April 2015 the UMass Board of Trustees approved the newly established College of Information and Computer Sciences, and he was named its dean.
