Ayumi Igarashi
Ayumi Igarashi studies fair decisions and resource allocation, connecting mathematical guarantees with practical tasks such as dividing household work. Igarashi coauthored research on dividing a graph fairly. The paper appeared at IJCAI 2017. It addressed allocation problems in which the structure of the available resources affects the choices people can make. Igarashi directs RIKEN’s Computational Social Choice Team. The team develops fair and efficient allocation mechanisms and studies their connection with machine learning and fair AI systems.

2017
Fair division on a graph
Igarashi coauthored research on dividing a graph fairly. The paper appeared at IJCAI 2017. It addressed allocation problems in which the structure of the available resources affects the choices people can make.
-
2021–2022
Goods, chores and competing preferences
Igarashi coauthored studies of weighted envy-freeness for indivisible items and fair allocation of goods and chores. These studies asked how an allocation can remain fair when objects cannot be divided or when the tasks include unwanted work.

2023
From allocation theory to a household app
Igarashi authored a paper on cutting a discrete cake fairly and coauthored Kajibuntan, a house-chore division app. Both appeared in AAAI publications in 2023. The app linked a formal allocation problem with a familiar practical setting.

As of October 2026
Computational social choice
Igarashi directs RIKEN’s Computational Social Choice Team. The team develops fair and efficient allocation mechanisms and studies their connection with machine learning and fair AI systems.
