Antoine Bordes

Antoine Bordes is a machine learning researcher who directed Facebook's Paris AI lab and then moved into defence AI. He earned a machine learning PhD in Paris in 2010 and joined Facebook in 2014, after work as a CNRS researcher in Compiègne and a postdoctoral fellow in Yoshua Bengio's lab in Montreal. At NIPS 2013 he co-authored Translating Embeddings for Modeling Multi-relational Data with Jason Weston and others. In 2022 he turned to directing FAIR EMEA Labs as Joëlle Pineau became FAIR's director general. As of October 2026, he is Helsing's chief scientist and heads Area 9, a new in-house research unit.

  1. 2010

    A machine learning PhD

    He receives his PhD in machine learning from Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris in 2010, with two awards for best PhD from the French AI association and the French Armament Agency.

  2. 2013

    Translating embeddings for multi-relational data

    He co-authors, with Jason Weston and others, Translating Embeddings for Modeling Multi-relational Data at NIPS 2013.

  3. 2014

    Joining Facebook AI Research

    He joins Facebook in 2014 after working as a CNRS researcher in Compiègne and as a postdoctoral fellow in Yoshua Bengio's lab in Montreal.

  4. 2017–2018

    Directing FAIR Paris

    Facebook names him director of FAIR Paris in 2017. In 2018 he directs the French centre, where about sixty people work.

  5. 2022

    Turning to FAIR EMEA Labs

    In 2022 Joëlle Pineau becomes FAIR's director general, and Antoine Bordes turns to directing FAIR EMEA Labs.

  6. By 2023

    Joining Helsing from Meta

    By September 2023 Helsing hires him from Meta.

  7. 2025

    Partnering with Mistral AI

    In February 2025 Helsing and Mistral AI announce a defence AI partnership, and Antoine Bordes speaks as Helsing's VP of AI.

  8. As of October 2026

    Chief scientist heading Area 9

    In June 2026 Helsing introduces Area 9, a new in-house research unit headed by its chief scientist, Antoine Bordes.
