Researcher

Alan L. Yuille

Also known as Alan Yuille

Alan L. Yuille is a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor at Johns Hopkins University, where he directs the Computational Cognition, Vision, and Learning group and researches computational models of vision, mathematical models of cognition, medical image analysis, and artificial intelligence and neural networks. After a Cambridge mathematics degree, he earns a physics PhD under Stephen Hawking in 1981, and research and faculty posts at MIT, Harvard, Smith-Kettlewell and UCLA come before his move to Johns Hopkins in 2016. His paper on image parsing wins the ICCV Marr Prize in 2003, and he and Song-Chun Zhu win the Helmholtz test-of-time award in 2013. In 2026 he and his co-authors receive a Frontiers of Science Award for the DeepLab segmentation paper.
