Aditya Grover

Aditya Grover is a UCLA computer science professor whose AI work spans generative models, weather forecasting and language models. He earned computer science degrees at IIT Delhi and Stanford and worked at Facebook AI Research, UC Berkeley, Google Deepmind, Microsoft Research and OpenAI. He coauthored Moser Flow, which received a NeurIPS Outstanding Paper Award, and Stormer, a transformer for medium-range weather forecasting. In 2025, he coauthored Inception Labs' Mercury report on diffusion language models and received the IJCAI Computers and Thought Award. As of October 2026, he is an assistant professor at UCLA and co-founder and CTO of Inception.

Timeline

  1. 2015–2020

    IIT Delhi and Stanford

He completes a bachelor's degree in computer science at IIT Delhi in 2015, then completes a master's degree and PhD in computer science at Stanford in 2020. During his PhD, he spends time working at Google Deepmind, Microsoft Research and OpenAI.

  2. 2021

    Joining the UCLA faculty

Before joining UCLA as an assistant professor in fall 2021, he worked as a research scientist at Facebook AI Research and a visiting postdoctoral researcher at UC Berkeley.

  3. 2021

    Generative flows on manifolds

He coauthored Moser Flow with Noam Rozen, Maximilian Nickel and Yaron Lipman. It uses a continuous normalizing flow to model data on manifolds and received a NeurIPS Outstanding Paper Award.

  4. 2023–2024

    Forecasting weather with transformers

He coauthored Stormer, a transformer model for medium-range weather forecasting. In 2024, he presented design principles for foundation models in atmospheric science.

  5. June 2025

    Diffusion for language models

He coauthored Inception Labs' technical report on Mercury, which presents commercial-scale language models based on diffusion that predict multiple tokens in parallel.

  6. 2025

    An early career AI award

He received the IJCAI Computers and Thought Award for work connecting deep generative models, representation learning and reinforcement learning with scientific reasoning.

  7. As of October 2026

    Roles at UCLA and Inception

He is an assistant professor of computer science at UCLA and co-founder and CTO of Inception.
