Adam Krzyzak

Also known as Adam Krzyżak

Adam Krzyzak is a professor of computer science at Concordia University in Montreal, and his research covers radial basis function networks, nonparametric regression and statistical pattern recognition. He earned computer engineering degrees in Wrocław in 1977 and 1980, and he joined Concordia's computer science department in 1983. In 1996 he and Tamás Linder presented a NIPS paper, and in 2002 he co-authored a book on nonparametric regression. He was named an IEEE Fellow in 2012 and an IAPR Fellow in 2020. As of October 2026, he is co-director of CENPARMI, the Centre for Pattern Recognition and Machine Intelligence.

  1. 1977–1980

    Computer engineering degrees in Wrocław

    He earns M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in computer engineering from the Technical University of Wrocław in 1977 and 1980.

  2. 1983

    Joining Concordia University

    He joins Concordia University's Department of Computer Science in Montreal in 1983, and he is now a professor there.

  3. 1996

    Radial basis networks at NIPS

    At NIPS in 1996, he and Tamás Linder present a paper on radial basis function networks and complexity regularization.

  4. 1998–2003

    Habilitation and a Polish professorship

    He earns a habilitation in computer engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology in 1998, and in 2003 he receives the title of professor from the President of the Republic of Poland.

  5. 2002

    A book on nonparametric regression

    He co-authors A Distribution-Free Theory of Nonparametric Regression, published by Springer-Verlag in 2002.

  6. 2012

    Named an IEEE Fellow

    He is named a Fellow of the IEEE in 2012 for contributions to nonparametric algorithms and classification systems for machine learning.

  7. 2020

    An IAPR Fellow

    He is named an IAPR Fellow in 2020 for contributions to statistical pattern recognition and machine learning, and for service to IAPR.

  8. As of October 2026

    Co-director of CENPARMI

    A professor in Computer Science and Software Engineering, he is also co-director of CENPARMI, the Centre for Pattern Recognition and Machine Intelligence.
