Researcher

Zhuang Liu

Zhuang Liu is an assistant professor of computer science at Princeton University, where his research builds AI systems that perceive and understand the world. He co-wrote DenseNet, which connects each layer to every other layer in a feed-forward fashion, and the paper won a Best Paper Award at CVPR in 2017. He completed a computer science PhD at UC Berkeley in 2022 and worked as a senior research scientist at Meta AI Research (FAIR) in New York until 2025. He co-wrote A ConvNet for the 2020s, which introduces ConvNeXt, a family of pure ConvNet models that compete favorably with Transformers in terms of accuracy and scalability. He also co-wrote Transformers without Normalization, a CVPR 2025 paper that shows Transformers without normalization can reach the same or better performance.
