Wen Gao
Also known as 高文, Gao Wen, GAO Wen
Wen Gao is a Chinese computer scientist whose research centers on artificial intelligence and multimedia. He received a computer-science BSc from Harbin University of Science and Technology in 1982, and he became a professor at Harbin Institute of Technology in 1991. He founded the Audio and Video Coding Standard working group in China in 2002, and he joined Peking University as a professor in 2006. The Chinese Academy of Engineering elected him a member in 2011, and he became founding director of Peng Cheng Laboratory in 2018. The IEEE gave him its Innovation in Societal Infrastructure Award in 2025, and as of October 2026 he is Boya Chair Professor at Peking University.
