Researcher

Wei Pan

Wei Pan earned a doctorate in system identification at Imperial College London and worked at DJI, TU Delft, Manchester, and Newcastle. He is professor of Autonomous Systems and Automatic Control at Newcastle. His Robot Bayesian Brain research uses control concepts as prior distributions in a Bayesian framework. His Oxford seminar described tests across robot platforms such as automated cars, ground vehicles, and quadrotors.

Timeline

  1. Earlier career

    System identification and robotics

Pan earned a doctorate in system identification at Imperial College London. He also held a project leader role at DJI and an assistant professorship in robot dynamics at TU Delft.

  2. Earlier career

    Machine learning at Manchester

He earlier held a senior lectureship in machine learning at Manchester. He taught in the AI doctoral training programme for decision making in complex systems. His research interests include Bayesian control.

  3. As of October 2026

    Bayesian learning for control

Robot Bayesian Brain uses control theory concepts as prior distributions in Bayesian learning. The method aims to improve efficiency and the stability of robot control.

  4. As of October 2026

    Several robot platforms

Examples for the presentation include automated cars, multiple ground vehicles, quadrotors, and spacecraft. He has a broad interest in control across robot types and is a Newcastle professor.
