Torsten Hoefler
Hoefler earned an Indiana PhD in 2007, became an Illinois professor in 2011 and joined ETH in 2013. He also worked on performance modeling for the Blue Waters supercomputer. His research spans computer architecture, parallel programming and algorithms. His work focuses on distributed deep learning, and he holds a machine-learning architecture role at the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre. He coauthored an ICLR 2023 study with Langwen Huang on compressing multidimensional weather and climate data into neural networks. This links efficient AI systems with scientific data.
