Tommi S. Jaakkola
Tommi S. Jaakkola develops machine-learning theory and algorithms for statistical inference. His work includes language, molecules and strategic interactions. Jaakkola earned a Helsinki theoretical-physics master’s degree in 1992 and an MIT computational-neuroscience doctorate in 1997. After a computational-molecular-biology postdoctoral appointment at UC Santa Cruz, he joined MIT’s EECS faculty in 1998. His work includes statistical inference and estimation with incomplete data. He develops methods for learning from and generating molecules, language, images and strategies. His programme includes molecular design and models of strategic, game-theoretic interactions.
