Timothy Gowers
Timothy Gowers is a mathematician whose recent work includes automatic theorem proving, a field that links mathematics to AI. He won the Fields Medal in 1998 for work in additive combinatorics. In 2013 he co-wrote a paper describing a program that solves elementary mathematical problems, and in 2024 he joined the advisory committee of the Artificial Intelligence Mathematical Olympiad Prize. In September 2026 he became one of nine initial members of an independent group that advises OpenAI on releasing mathematical results. As of October 2026, he holds the combinatorics chair at the Collège de France.
