Tianxi Cai
Also known as 蔡天西
Tianxi Cai develops statistical and machine learning methods for electronic health records, risk prediction, and personalized medicine. She earned a mathematics degree from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1995 and a biostatistics doctorate from Harvard in 1999, was an assistant professor at the University of Washington from 2000 to 2002, and returned to the Harvard faculty in 2002. She became a Fellow of the American Statistical Association in 2011, jointly supervised the semi-supervised PheCAP phenotyping pipeline in 2019, became a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics in 2025, and was named the Mosteller Statistician of the Year in February 2026. As of October 2026, she is the John Rock Professor of Population and Translational Data Sciences at Harvard and a professor of biomedical informatics at Harvard Medical School. She directs the Translational Data Science Center for a Learning Health System.
