Terah Lyons

Terah Lyons is a technology policy leader whose career connects government, nonprofit and corporate work on artificial intelligence. As a policy advisor in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, she co-directed the Future of Artificial Intelligence Initiative, which culminated in the report Preparing for the Future of Artificial Intelligence. In 2017 she became the founding executive director of the Partnership on AI, and she stepped down in January 2021. She joined JPMorgan Chase in 2024, where she is managing director and global head of AI policy.

Timeline

  1. 2012

    A Thouron Award

    While at Harvard, she receives the Thouron Award in 2012 to study for a summer at the University of Cambridge.

  2. 2014

    A Harvard social studies degree

    She earns a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 2014, in social studies with a focus on network theory and complex systems.

  3. 2015–2017

    Policy advisor at the White House

    She joins the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in 2015. By 2016 she is a policy advisor to the U.S. Chief Technology Officer.

  4. 2016

    Co-directing the Future of AI initiative

    She co-directs the White House Future of Artificial Intelligence Initiative, whose work culminates in the report Preparing for the Future of Artificial Intelligence. In October 2016 she and Ed Felten publish a White House blog post titled The Administration's Report on the Future of Artificial Intelligence.

  5. October 2017–January 2021

    Founding director of Partnership on AI

    In October 2017 she is named founding executive director of the Partnership on AI, joining from the Mozilla Foundation. She steps down in January 2021.

  6. 2022

    AI Index steering committee

    In 2022 she serves on the steering committee of Stanford University's AI Index report.

  7. Since 2024

    Global head of AI policy

    In 2024 she joins JPMorgan Chase as managing director and global head of AI policy, where she drives firmwide strategy on technology policy.
