Sholom M. Weiss
Sholom M. Weiss researches knowledge-based data mining and predictive text analysis. His work includes combining expert systems with machine learning and shared textbooks on text mining. With Stephen Buckley, Shubir Kapoor and Søren Damgaard, Weiss co-authored a KDD 2003 paper on knowledge-based data mining. It uses expert-system cases and recommendations to guide discovery of new predictive decision rules. Weiss, Nitin Indurkhya and Tong Zhang published Fundamentals of Predictive Text Mining in 2010. The book covers methods for document classification, retrieval, clustering, information extraction and evaluation. The 2015 edition adds material on deep learning, graph models, social-media mining and pitfalls in evaluating large datasets. In 2015, Weiss was a Rutgers emeritus computer-science professor.
