Seth A. Hutchinson

Also known as Seth Hutchinson

Seth Hutchinson is a roboticist whose work spans visual servo control, robot motion and robot task planning. He began publishing robotics research during his doctoral studies at Purdue University, which he completed in 1988. With Peter Corke, he co-wrote a 1996 tutorial on visual servo control, and in May 2005 he co-authored Principles of Robot Motion. He moved to Georgia Tech in January 2018, was elected president-elect of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society in October 2018, and directed the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Machines from 2019 to 2024. In 2025 he co-authored a paper on task planning with large language models, and he is a professor in Khoury College at Northeastern University.
