Sebastian Riedel is a researcher at DeepMind and a professor in natural language processing and machine learning at University College London. He completed a PhD at the University of Edinburgh in 2009 and then worked as a postdoc with Andrew McCallum at UMass Amherst. In 2013 he co-wrote a NAACL paper on relation extraction with matrix factorization and universal schemas. Facebook announced in 2018 that it would acquire Bloomsbury AI, a London startup he co-founded, and in 2019 he led the London site of Facebook AI Research. He co-wrote a 2020 NeurIPS paper on retrieval-augmented generation, and a paper he co-wrote won the Best Short Paper award at EACL in 2021.
