Researcher

Robert S. Engelmore

Robert S. Engelmore coauthored a 1972 paper with Edward Feigenbaum on AI interpretation of high-resolution mass spectra. The paper addressed structure identification of estrogenic steroids through a shared research effort. Engelmore and Anthony Morgan edited Blackboard Systems, published by Addison-Wesley in 1988. The volume collected research on this architecture for knowledge-based problem solving. AAAI hosted a 2004 invited memorial lecture by Feigenbaum in Engelmore’s honor. Engelmore helped develop blackboard architectures, and his work connected to applications of knowledge-based systems.
