Rangasami L. Kashyap
Also known as Rangasami Lakshminarayan Kashyap
Kashyap advised Ramalingam Chellappa at Purdue University, and his work covered pattern classification and computer vision. In 1965 he and Yu-Chi Ho developed the Ho-Kashyap procedure, a method for finding a linear decision boundary between two classes. In 1982 he presented the Kashyap information criterion for model selection, and in 1990 the IAPR gave him the King-Sun Fu Prize. The IAPR named him a Fellow in 1994, and India awarded him the Padma Shri in 2021 for literature and education. He died in 2022, at the age of 84.
