Radhia Cousot

Also known as Radhia Rezig

Radhia Cousot was a computer scientist whose work with Patrick Cousot gave automatic program analysis a mathematical framework through abstract interpretation. She earned a computer science master's degree in Grenoble, completed a mathematics doctorate in Nancy, and held research appointments in Grenoble, Nancy, Orsay, and Paris. Her 1977 papers connected static program analysis with automatic synthesis of program invariants, including work presented at an artificial-intelligence and programming-languages symposium. At École Polytechnique, she led a semantics and proof team and contributed to ASTRÉE, a static analyzer for embedded software; she later worked at École Normale Supérieure. She shared awards with Patrick Cousot in 2013 and 2014 and died in 2014.

Timeline

  1. 1972

    A master's in Grenoble

On a UNESCO fellowship, she earns a computer science master's degree at Joseph Fourier University of Grenoble in 1972.

  2. 1975–1979

    Research in Grenoble

She joins the IMAG laboratory at Joseph Fourier University of Grenoble as an associate research scientist in 1975.

  3. 1977

    Two program-analysis papers

With Patrick Cousot, she publishes their abstract interpretation framework for static program analysis in 1977. She also publishes a 1977 paper on the mathematical foundations for automatically synthesizing program invariant assertions at the ACM Symposium on Artificial Intelligence & Programming Languages.

  4. 1980–1988

    Research in Nancy and Orsay

She serves as a CNRS research scientist at the computer science laboratories of Nancy from 1980 to 1983 and works at the University of Paris-Sud in Orsay from 1984 to 1988. In 1985, she completes a mathematics doctorate in Nancy under Claude Pair.

  5. 1989–2008

    Leading a semantics team

Her École Polytechnique appointment runs from 1989 to 2008; from 1991, she heads the Semantics, Proof and Abstract Interpretation research team.

  6. 2002–2004

    Working on ASTRÉE

ASTRÉE is released in 2002 as a static analyzer based on abstract interpretation, with Cousot among its original authors. She serves as ASTRÉE's CNRS and École polytechnique contact for static analysis of real-time embedded software.

  7. 2006–2014

    At École Normale Supérieure

She works in the computer science department at École Normale Supérieure from 2006 through 2014.

  8. 2013–2014

    Two shared awards

She shares the ACM SIGPLAN Programming Languages Achievement Award with Patrick Cousot in 2013 and the IEEE Computer Society Harlan D. Mills Award with him in 2014; she dies in 2014.
