Peter Kyle
Peter Kyle is a UK politician whose AI work includes commissioning a national plan to grow the sector and accelerate adoption. He graduated from the University of Sussex in 1999, worked as an aid worker in Eastern Europe and the Balkans, and served as a Cabinet Office special adviser on social exclusion. He entered the UK Parliament as MP for Hove in 2015 and became Shadow Science Secretary in 2023. As Science Secretary, he commissioned Matt Clifford’s AI Opportunities Action Plan, which called for expanding the AI Research Resource and creating AI Growth Zones. TIME included him among its 2025 AI Shapers, and he later served as Business and Trade Secretary from September 2025 to July 2026.

Study and aid work
After graduating from the University of Sussex in 1999 in Geography and Environmental Studies with Development Studies, he worked as an aid worker in Eastern Europe and the Balkans. In 2006, he became a Cabinet Office special adviser focused on social exclusion policy.
