Patrick J. Flynn

Also known as Pat Flynn

Patrick J. Flynn is an emeritus professor of computer science and engineering at Notre Dame, and since 2001 he and Kevin Bowyer have researched image-based biometrics and multi-biometrics. He earned a computer science PhD at Michigan State in 1990, then held faculty posts at Notre Dame, Washington State University and Ohio State University. The IAPR made him a Fellow in 2006 and the IEEE in 2011, and the IEEE Computer Society gave him its 2016 Technical Achievement Award. From 2016 to 2017 he served as Provost Fellow and Director of Notre Dame California.

    The IAPR names him a Fellow in 2006 for research in three-dimensional object recognition systems and biometrics. In 2007–2008 he is a visiting scientist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology during a sabbatical leave.

    IEEE fellowship and Duda professorship

    The IEEE names him a Fellow in 2011. He takes the Fritz Duda Family Professorship in the College of Engineering in 2014.

  6. 2016

    IEEE Computer Society award

    He receives the IEEE Computer Society's 2016 Technical Achievement Award for biometric identification using face, eye and ear attributes.

  7. 2016–2017

    Directing Notre Dame California

    In 2016–2017 he serves as Provost Fellow and Director of Notre Dame California.
