Paola Mello

Paola Mello is an artificial intelligence researcher whose work centers on knowledge representation and computational logic. Her laurea in electrical engineering came from the University of Bologna in 1982, and her doctorate followed there in 1989. In 2008 she co-authored a paper on the SCIFF framework for verifying agent interaction. As president, she led AIxIA, the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence, from 2010 to 2014, and she headed the Department of Computer Science and Engineering from 2012 to 2015. The European Association for Artificial Intelligence named her a Fellow in 2017, and as of October 2026 she is a professor at the University of Bologna.
