Olga Troyanskaya

Also known as Olga G. Troyanskaya

Olga Troyanskaya is a computational biologist at Princeton whose work includes deep learning models for noncoding variants. She earned a computer science and biology degree at the University of Richmond and a Ph.D. in biomedical informatics at Stanford. In 2015, she and Jian Zhou published a deep learning sequence model in Nature Methods. The Association for Computing Machinery named her an ACM Fellow in 2020, and ISCB named her its 2026 Innovator Award winner. As of October 2026, she is the Maduraperuma/Khot Professor of Computer Science at Princeton and directs Princeton Precision Health.

Timeline

  1. 1999–2003

A computer science and biology degree

In 1999, she completes a computer science and biology degree at the University of Richmond. A Ph.D. in biomedical informatics at Stanford follows in 2003.

  2. 2003–2013

    Joining Princeton's faculty

In 2003, she joins Princeton as an assistant professor, and in 2013 she becomes a full professor.

  3. 2011

    The Overton Prize

The International Society for Computational Biology gives her the Overton Prize in 2011, a prize for early to mid-career scientists.

  4. 2015

    Deep learning for noncoding variants

She and Jian Zhou publish a deep learning sequence model for noncoding variants in Nature Methods in 2015.

  5. 2020

    An ACM Fellowship

In 2020, the Association for Computing Machinery names her an ACM fellow for contributions to computational biology and data integration.

  6. 2022

    Princeton Precision Health begins

Princeton creates Princeton Precision Health in the summer of 2022, and the initiative focuses on three areas: kidney disease and diabetes, the immune system and inflammation, and neurodevelopment and mental health.

  7. 2026

    An ISCB Innovator Award

The 2026 ISCB Innovator Award goes to her, and she opens day 2 of ISMB by arguing that biomedicine needs purpose-built, context-aware models.

  8. As of October 2026

    A named professorship at Princeton

Princeton appoints her Maduraperuma/Khot Professor of Computer Science in 2025. She directs Princeton Precision Health and serves as deputy director for genomics at the Flatiron Institute's Center for Computational Biology.
