Peter Norvig
Peter Norvig connects AI research with practical programming and education. His career included leadership at NASA Ames and Google, where teams applied AI to spacecraft software, search and other computing tasks. With Stuart Russell, he wrote Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach. His earlier book Paradigms of Artificial Intelligence Programming and his public spelling-correction example teach readers through working code. In 2011, he and Sebastian Thrun opened an AI course to learners around the world. Norvig later stressed that learners need confidence, community and support as well as useful material. He joined Stanford HAI as a Distinguished Education Fellow in 2021. The role centers on explaining AI and widening access to education.
