Nisarg Shah
Nisarg Shah is an associate professor of computer science at the University of Toronto, and his research addresses algorithmic fairness. His social choice work extends to bias and unfairness in AI systems, including machine learning systems. He completed a PhD at Carnegie Mellon in 2016, then held a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard in 2017. In 2024 IJCAI gave him its Computers and Thought Award, which is presented to outstanding young scientists in artificial intelligence. He is also a research lead at the Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society, a post he took up in July 2022.
