Michael Oren
Michael Oren wrote computer-vision research in the 1990s, much of it with Shree Nayar. In 1993 he and Nayar published a CVPR paper on reflectance from rough diffuse surfaces, and the Oren–Nayar reflectance model predicts the appearance of concrete, plaster and sand. Their paper on specular surface geometry won the ICCV Marr Prize in 1995. In 1997 he co-wrote a CVPR paper on pedestrian detection with Tomaso Poggio and three others. In 1998 he published “A General Framework for Object Detection” at ICCV.
Timeline
-
1993
Reflectance from rough surfaces
He and Shree Nayar publish “Diffuse Reflectance from Rough Surfaces” at CVPR 1993. The Oren–Nayar reflectance model predicts the appearance of concrete, plaster and sand.
-
1994
Generalizing Lambert's reflectance model
He co-authors “Generalization of Lambert’s reflectance model,” a SIGGRAPH 1994 paper. He also co-authors “Seeing Beyond Lambert’s Law” at ECCV 1994.
-
1995
The ICCV Marr Prize
They win the ICCV Marr Prize in 1995 for “A Theory of Specular Surface Geometry.”
-
1997
Pedestrian detection with wavelets
He co-writes “Pedestrian Detection Using Wavelet Templates,” a CVPR 1997 paper, with Constantine Papageorgiou, Pawan Sinha, Edgar Osuna and Tomaso Poggio.
-
1998
A general object detection framework
He publishes “A General Framework for Object Detection” at ICCV 1998.
