Michael Genesereth
Michael Genesereth researches computational logic and its applications. He earned a Harvard doctorate in 1978; his work includes enterprise systems, deductive databases and computational law. AAAI elected him a Fellow in 1990. With Nathaniel Love and Barney Pell he published the 2005 overview of AAAI’s general game-playing competition, which studies agents that act from formal descriptions of game rules. He became CodeX research director in 2005. His work connects explicit representations with reasoning, software and legal informatics.

Timeline
-
1978
Doctoral education and logic
Genesereth earned a Harvard doctorate in 1978. His research centers on computational logic. His later applications examine how explicit rules and representations can support reasoning in several domains, including enterprise systems and legal information.
-
1990
AAAI fellowship
AAAI elected Genesereth a Fellow in 1990. His work includes data integration, deductive databases and later logic research. His career centers on representing knowledge and deriving useful conclusions from formal descriptions.
-
2005
General game playing
With Nathaniel Love and Barney Pell, Genesereth published an overview of AAAI’s general game-playing competition in 2005. The systems accept a formal game description and play from those rules. The research task tests adaptation across games.
-
2005 and later
Logic applied to legal information
Genesereth became CodeX research director in 2005. The center works on legal informatics, and Genesereth teaches courses on computational law, logic and game playing. His career connects formal reasoning with shared research and education on rules in practical domains.
