Matthias Bethge
Matthias Bethge’s work connects computational vision, neural representations, and machine learning. In 2015, he co-authored A Neural Algorithm of Artistic Style with Leon Gatys and Alexander Ecker. The paper described a deep neural network system that separates and recombines image content and style. He is professor of Computational Neuroscience and Machine Learning and director of the Tübingen AI Center. His group researches retina models, saliency, the alignment of neural networks with brain data, and learning systems.

A neural algorithm for artistic style
Bethge, Leon Gatys, and Alexander Ecker submitted A Neural Algorithm of Artistic Style in August 2015. The paper described an image generation system based on a deep neural network. It used neural representations to separate and recombine the content and style of different images.
