Martin Abadi

Also known as Martín Abadi

Martin Abadi is a computer scientist whose research spans authentication in distributed systems, large-scale machine learning, and learning from private data. He earned a Stanford doctorate in 1987, took a principal researcher role at Microsoft Research Silicon Valley in 2006, and has worked at Google since 2014; he is now emeritus at UC Santa Cruz. His 2016 TensorFlow paper describes a system for large-scale machine learning in heterogeneous environments. In 2017, he coauthored PATE, a semi-supervised method that trains a student from noisy teacher votes while protecting private training data; the paper received an ICLR Best Paper Award.
