Lin-shan Lee

Also known as Lee Lin-shan, 李琳山

Lin-shan Lee is a researcher in Chinese spoken-language processing and speech information retrieval. He earned electrical-engineering degrees from National Taiwan University and Stanford, founded NTU's Speech Processing Laboratory in 1981, and developed Mandarin speech recognition, text-to-speech, and information-retrieval systems. His academic career included university and institute leadership; he became an IEEE Fellow in 1993 and an ISCA Fellow in 2010. Taiwan awarded him the Presidential Science Prize in 2015, Academia Sinica elected him an academician in 2016, ISCA gave him its Medal for Scientific Achievement in 2022, and NTU gave him the Hsu Scientific Chair Award in 2026. As of October 2026, he is director of NTU's AI Center of Research Excellence and professor emeritus of electrical engineering.
