Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris is a former vice president of the United States who took a public role in AI policy. In May 2023 she met the CEOs of four American companies at the forefront of AI innovation to share concerns about AI risks, and in November 2023 she announced new AI initiatives at the UK AI Safety Summit, including the AI Safety Institute of the United States. Her earlier career included a 1986 degree in political science and economics, two elected California posts, and a United States Senate seat in 2017. She became the first woman to serve as vice president in January 2021, and in September 2025 she published the memoir 107 Days about her 2024 presidential campaign. In October 2026 she urged governments and companies to act immediately against AI dangers, and she is weighing whether to seek the White House again.

    Urging action on AI dangers

    She is a former vice president weighing whether to seek the White House again, and in October 2026 she urges governments and companies to act immediately against AI dangers.
