John Gustav Daugman
Also known as John Daugman
John Gustav Daugman was a professor of computer vision and pattern recognition at the University of Cambridge, and he developed an iris recognition algorithm. He filed a patent for that algorithm in 1991 while working at Cambridge, having earlier held the Toshiba Chair in Tokyo. His 1993 paper on a test of statistical independence appeared in IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence. The British Computer Society gave him its Information Technology Award and Medal in 1997, and the International Association for Pattern Recognition named him a Fellow in 2012. He died in June 2024 as an emeritus professor at Cambridge.
