Jiawei Han

Jiawei Han is a computer scientist whose work spans data mining, AI for chemistry, and large language models. He earns a computer science PhD at Wisconsin in 1985, teaches at Northwestern and Simon Fraser, and joins Illinois in 2001. His frequent-pattern methods and Bayesian work on conflicting data sit alongside Data Mining: Concepts and Techniques, which he coauthors with Jian Pei and Hanghang Tong in its fourth edition. Since 2019, he holds Illinois's Michael Aiken Chair and works with the Molecule Maker Lab on AI for organic chemistry; a coauthored adaptive KV cache paper receives an ICLR Honorable Mention in 2024.
