Jacopo Staiano
Jacopo Staiano’s work spans social computing, behavioral modeling and natural language generation. He studied computer engineering, sonic arts and human language technologies before completing a doctorate at Trento. His career includes academic research and industrial data science, including research leadership at reciTAL.ai. Later work examines responses to misinformation and retrieval-based language-model pipelines for professional fact-checking. His research connects the technical properties of generated text with the social settings in which people read, discuss and use it.

Respond to misinformation
Staiano coauthored Countering Misinformation via Emotional Response Generation. The work studies how fact-checking material can support generated replies that account for the style and social context of online conversations.

Evaluate fact-checking pipelines
He coauthored Face the Facts!, a study of retrieval-augmented pipelines for professional fact-checking. It tests generated verdicts on complex claims and varied knowledge sources, reporting differences in faithfulness, adherence and human evaluations across model and retrieval choices.
