Franco Nori
Franco Nori works on quantum optics and quantum information, and he has also applied neural networks to quantum many-body systems. In August 2021 the University of Tokyo announced a paper he co-wrote with Yusuke Nomura and Nobuyuki Yoshioka on deep neural networks for purified finite-temperature states. He earned a BS in Venezuela in 1982 and an MS and PhD at the University of Illinois in 1983 and 1987, and he joined the University of Michigan in 1990. He received the 2023 Lamb Award and Optica's 2024 Charles Hard Townes Medal. As of October 2026, he is team director at RIKEN's Quantum Computing Center, with a concurrent position at the University of Michigan.
