Francisco Herrera

Also known as Francisco Herrera Triguero

Francisco Herrera is an artificial intelligence researcher whose work spans soft computing, genetic algorithms, fuzzy logic, decision-making, and data mining. He studied mathematics and earned a doctorate at Granada before becoming a full professor in computer science and AI. His work includes the SCI²S group and the 2001 book Genetic Fuzzy Systems: Evolutionary Tuning and Learning of Fuzzy Knowledge Bases. He received Spain's National Informatics Award and the Medal of Andalusia; as of October 2026, he directs DaSCI and is a EurAI Fellow.

    Born in Jódar, Jaén, in 1966, he earned a mathematics degree in 1988 and a doctorate in mathematics in 1991 at the University of Granada.

    Faculty appointments in Granada

    The University of Granada appointed him as a professor in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence in 1995; he became a full professor in the department in April 2005.

    He coauthored Genetic Fuzzy Systems: Evolutionary Tuning and Learning of Fuzzy Knowledge Bases, published by World Scientific in 2001.
