Ernest Lenard Hall
Also known as Ernie Hall, Ernest L. Hall
Ernest Lenard Hall is a robotics researcher who has noted the importance of combining image processing with manipulators and controllers to build intelligent robots. He earned electrical engineering degrees at the University of Missouri in 1965 and 1966, then joined the Signal and Image Processing Institute at the University of Southern California in 1973. In 1983 he became the first Paul E. Geier Professor of Robotics at the University of Cincinnati; he received the IEEE Fellow Award in 1985, and in 2013 he was elected president of the Microscopy Society of America. As of October 2026, he is professor emeritus of computer science and mechanical engineering at the University of Cincinnati.
