Emmanuel Dupoux
Emmanuel Dupoux studies language acquisition and human cognition. His research programme uses machine learning to build quantitative models of infant processing and learning. Dupoux received a cognitive-psychology doctorate from EHESS in 1989. He held a postdoctoral appointment in the University of Arizona Cognitive Science Program from 1989 to 1990. He directed the Laboratoire de Sciences Cognitives et Psycholinguistique from 1998 to 2009. His research studies early linguistic and social development through comparisons of infants and adults. His project applies Bayesian models, hidden Markov models and signal processing to child-adult speech. It aims to learn phonological categories with little supervision and test the models against infant behavioural and brain-imaging evidence.
