Emma Abele
Emma Abele led METR, a research nonprofit that measures whether and when AI systems might threaten catastrophic harm to society. In 2020, a grant helped her build an effective altruism group at Brown University. She joined METR as chief of staff in March 2023 and became its executive director in April 2024. She went on leave in February 2025 and continued to advise the organization. As of October 2026, she is a director at 80,000 Hours and is no longer affiliated with METR.
