Emanuel Gonçalves
Also known as Emanuel Goncalves
Emanuel Gonçalves applies machine learning to cancer biology. His group combines drug screens, genetic experiments and molecular measurements to study treatment response. Gonçalves earned a computational-biology PhD through Cambridge and EMBL-EBI in 2017. He later held a postdoctoral fellowship at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. Gonçalves coauthored work on synthetic augmentation of multi-omic cancer-cell datasets using unsupervised deep learning. MOSA is a multiview variational autoencoder for integrating and augmenting the Cancer Dependency Map. With a wider author team, he coauthored a review of multi-omics integration in Briefings in Bioinformatics. He uses statistical and deep-generative methods for combining complex biological measurements.
