Edward Yang
Also known as Edward Z. Yang, ezyang
As of October 2026, Edward Yang is a research engineer at Meta, where he works on PT2 with a focus on dynamic shapes. He earned a BS at MIT in 2012 and a PhD in programming languages at Stanford in 2017. In June 2017 he wrote a thesis on practical mix-in linking in Haskell. The 2019 NeurIPS paper describing PyTorch, a deep learning library built around an imperative style, lists him as a co-author. By 2021 he was working on PyTorch at Facebook, after earlier work on Backpack in Haskell.
