E. Allen Emerson
Also known as E A Emerson, E. A. Emerson, Ernest Allen Emerson II
Emerson was an American computer scientist who helped develop model checking, a technique used in formal verification of software and hardware. He was born in Dallas in 1954 and studied mathematics at UT Austin and Harvard before joining UT Austin's computer science department in 1981. With Edmund Clarke, he introduced the term model checking in a 1981 paper, and in 2007 he shared the Turing Award with Clarke and Joseph Sifakis. He also shared the 1998 Paris Kanellakis Award for symbolic model checking. He died in Austin in 2024, at the age of 70.
