Researcher

Douglas B. Lenat

Douglas B. Lenat developed knowledge-based AI, including automated discovery research and leadership of the Cyc common sense project. Lenat earned a computer science doctorate in 1976. His thesis program AM proposed mathematical discoveries. He received an IJCAI Computers and Thought Award in 1977. In a June 2003 Stanford talk, Lenat discussed representing everyday facts and rules of thumb so computers could reason with them. Lenat presented the work as a team engineering effort and discussed lessons from constructing a large knowledge-based system.
